The definition of space does not always require large scale intervention. Something as simple as shifting a few stones can create a cherished space for a community. This was the case with OSA’s “Seggio”.
On a clear fall day, we hiked to the top of a small mountain in Tuscany. The summit boasted a beautiful view with no place to pause. The brush and grass were too rough to sit on, but there were several rocks lying about; too small to make an adequate seat on their own. We took the afternoon to construct the rubble into a compact bench, wide enough for two. We were told years later that this bench is still well used by the community for planned picnics and hikers passing by.
